Galen made the News too! Festival of Strings

We always knew that the kids would take some form of music. When G started school, we quickly learned that strings were in. Why? The strings program at our school board starts in Grade 4 with beginner violin and adds in cello and upright bass as the children get a bit more experienced (and large enough to hold the instruments!). The kids have small group lessons at school once a week and orchestra practice on Saturdays. The quality of the program is best understood by watching the kids perform. Last night we watched as Galen and a group of nearly 400 students went on stage at the local concert hall to perform in their various orchestras. They were featured in the news and the video clips below shows some of the performance. In the largest mass orchestra (first shots), the beginners, including Galen, are on the risers at the very back. Galen's beginner orchestra is highlighted in the very end. You can just see him to the left of the conductor when they stand for their applause! Next year, he will play in the West Hamilton Strings Orchestra.
