Gone Fishin'

Armed with Spiderman and Barbie fishing rods, Raynham and Galen are all ready for summer vacation and camping.  Both rods came with something special to practice casting.  Ray's is a plastic flower, without a hook of course.  She loves her fishing rod and Drew took the kids out fishing in Dundas as soon as they bought them.

Galen, who mastered the fish story last summer during his first fishing experience is ready to go and doesn't want much practice.  He is ready for the hook and constantly changes lures to try to find one that will work.  Every tug at the line is "a big one that got away".

Raynham told Dad it was her job to catch him a fish because he wasn't good enough to catch one himself.  She has been practicing her casting even in the house.  Today, I heard a strange noise from the basement and found her, fishing rod in hand, casting with her rod to catch something for her penguin (a large plastic Christmas decoration that she LOVES).  Now she is upstairs, standing on the back of the couch, trying to catch a fish in the living room.  Based on the mess I am now trying to detangle from her line, I am rather afraid to put a hook on it.  Maybe she won't notice that fish don't like her hookless lures....

Temple Playhouse still rocks

We've blogged before about the pre-school that Raynham attends and their dedication to teaching the arts. This year we are trying their summer camp for two weeks for both kids and it is fantastic. Outside of the social fun, park play, and splash pad, Galen has constructed out of wood a storage box for toys (small), a working dragster, a birdhouse, and numerous fanciful characters. I'm not sure what Raynham's class is doing, as she has instead been spending nearly all of her time with Galen's class. The big kids are just more fun, I guess. Possible too much fun as she napped for 4 hours on Saturday, most of it on the floor in the family room.

During the school year, Raynham's class spent much time with great painters but in summer William Shakespeare seems to be the theme. Galen was telling of a great story they were reading when I realized it was The Tempest. Later in the week they were heavily into Romeo & Juliet, with Galen liking the sword fights. Can't wait until I can show him my favourite version:

little did I know

(this past Sunday, getting ready to take the kids to church)

Dad: Raynham, ready to go?

Raynham: Dad, mommy and me are beautiful. You and Galen are not. I will have to shout at all the church people to make them stop laughing at you and Galen.
